POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE
The Golden Gloves of America, as an affiliate member of USA Boxing, has the right to make some exceptions to the rules and policies of USA Boxing. Please make note of the following key points of the Western Pennsylvania Golden Gloves policy, some of which differ from the rules of USA Boxing.

BOXERS
The 2023 Western Pennsylvania Golden Gloves tournament is open to male and female boxers. Only those18 years or older in both the novice and open/elite class are eligible to advance to the State Finals.
• All boxers must be currently registered with USA boxing. Before weighing in, all boxers must present their passbook with 2023 membership card and "fit to box" form or physical signed by a medical doctor no less than 12 months prior to the date of competition.
• All boxers must be US Citizens or Legal non-citizens to compete (rule change adopted 5/2018).

REGISTER
All boxers and coaches must be registered with USA Boxing, must complete and sign an entry form, and agree to abide by the rules and policies of the National Golden Gloves.

Weigh-ins are held 2 hours prior to Bell Time. NO WEIGHT ALLOWANCE in OPEN CLASS, 1 lb. ALLOWANCE IN NOVICE

COACHES INFORMATION
All coaches must be registered (membership fee paid) and certified (clinic attended/test completed) with USA Boxing. Current SafeSport certification and a completed and cleared background check is also required for all coaches. Coaches will not be permitted to work a corner unless they are fully registered and certified, and only 2 coaches are allowed in a corner.
OPEN CLASSES
Between 18-40 years of age and has 11 or more bouts

NOVICE CLASSES
Between 18-40 years of age and who has not had more than 10 bouts.
WEIGHT CLASSES will be contested for Golden Gloves are:
Twenty (20) weight classes will be contested at the National Tournament. As an Olympic Trails Qualifier, US citizens only are allowed to compete in the Olympic weight classes at indicated in RED.
Male's Open & Novice: 112, 125, 132, 139, 147, 156, 165, 176, 203, 203+
Female's Open & Novice: 110, 119, 125, 132, 139, 146, 154, 165, 178, 178+

PHYSICALS
Present proof of having had a physical within the past 12 months and agree to abide by the rules and policies of the Western Pennsylvania Golden Gloves.

EQUIPMENT
HEAD GEAR
Golden Gloves competition will be conducted with USA Boxing approved competition head gear. The head gear color does not need to coordinate with the color of the corner (although) recommended), Head gear will be put on the boxer in the ring. All open boxers must wear headgear
COMPETITION GLOVES
All competition will be conducted with approved gloves.
Males: 10 oz gloves will be used for 112 lbs to 139 lbs and 12 oz for weights 147 to 203+.
Females: 10 oz gloves will be used for 106 lbs to 139 lbs. and 12 oz for weights 146 to 178+
HAND WRAPS
A maximum of one roll of gauze per hand and 6’ x 1” of tape.
WEIGH INS
All boxers must weigh in to be officially entered in this tournament and must commit to one weight division. Boxers will be allowed to weigh in twice during the designated weigh-in period. You must have a current pre-registered USA passbook and be clean shaven (no mustaches or beards) to be allowed on the scale. No weigh allowance in the Open Class. Novice boxers are allowed 1 lbs.
DIVISIONS
Novice class (10 bouts or less)
Open class (11 bouts or more)
SCORING
The Golden Gloves will use the 10 point must system for scoring bouts.
JUDGES
5 judges will be used and all judges’ scores will be used.
WALKOVERS|AWARDS
A boxer must box at least once in the tournament to be eligible for advancement. Regional walkover boxers may advance if there is competition in the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Championships. Boxers can be awarded a trophy, medal, etc. if that boxer has actually competed in competition during the tournament. He or she must weigh-in and can only be awarded the championship title if they win in the ring or if their schedule opponent has pulled out. Only in that case can a boxer win by walkover.
AGE RESTRICTIONS
The age for boxers in the open and novice class are 18-40, determined as to what age the boxer is before competition starts.
SUBSITUTIONS
Each Regional Director has the right to advance a boxer to represent the region if the winner of that region becomes unavailable.
